Holiday parties are in full swing! It’s a great excuse to get just a little extra and dress it up a little!
To get really versatile and add some subtle volume, I love putting on a low-density hair topper.
Hair toppers are basically hair extensions 2.0, because they go the extra mile and cover up the top of your head in addition to the crown area. I love them because you’re able to work in volume from the roots, which allows you to add in fun braids and curls throughout your hair!
Uniwigs is an online retailer that has a HUGE selection of both wigs and toppers, all of which are really affordable. They’ve recently stepped up their quality with a lot of upgraded pieces, which I have been loving.
Their IG game is strong, with lots of influencers getting really creative with their hair pieces. Check some of them out below:

Not only do they have fun, synthetic hair pieces, they also have really natural looking human hair pieces that will fool anyone into thinking it’s all your hair!
I’ve previously reviewed the Upgrade Claire human hair topper on my Instagram IGTV, which was a great every day piece.
Compared to the Upgrade Claire, the Bella hair topper has a larger silk top base area (silk tops are the most realistic looking material in the market because it looks like a real scalp!).
This increases the surface area where you can move your hair part around for more styling options.
In addition, the Bella topper is a little lower density compared to the Claire because it doesn’t have any wefts. While the wefting on the Claire gives a little more elasticity to pull the topper around your scalp for better fit, it does add a little more bulk compared to the Bella piece.
If you are a minimalist and want a super subtle oomph to your hair, I’d say this Bella hair topper is the one for you. It’ll feel a little lighter and more manageable, like it’s practically your hair.
Lighter pieces also allow you to do higher up-dos, since you don’t have too much hair weighing down and pulling on the hair clips.
Since this whole piece is fully hand-tied (meaning each strand of hair is individually tied to the silk base), you don’t have to worry about any wefts showing through.
In order to put it on, you just place it on top of your head, gently clip it into your hair, and brush it through your own hair to blend it all in. After that, you’re ready to style it with your favorite look!

Here are some hairstyles you can rock with each occasion with a hair topper:
1. Work Holiday Party
Texturizing hair powder is key with this hairstyle to achieve a softly tousled, fun, but still elegant ponytail. Pulling out front layers frame up your face for a more feminine and super flattering look. You can dress it up a little by adding clips or statement barrettes, but I prefer the minimalistic look by wrapping hair around each ponytail.
If you’re heading out afterwards, tuck a dark red lipstick in your purse and you’ll be ready to hit the town!
What You’ll need: Two hair ties, texturizing hair powder or spray, bobby pins
Styling Tips:
When you first receive your hair topper, it’ll have a center part. In order to train the hair to go back all in one direction, you’ll need to wash the hair piece (I highly recommend washing all of your hair pieces before wearing!). When the hair is completely wet, brush all of the hair back and blow dry it back in the same direction as well.
After this step, you may want to cut in some baby hair to make it look more natural. Here’s a great video on how to do this here. If you’re lazy and/or feel overwhelmed with this step, you can always just pull your baby hairs out as well!
2. Friend’s Potluck
The basic bun gets an upgrade! This fun hairstyle is great for a casual get-together with friends.
The hair topper comes in clutch because it adds more volume without looking too overdone. It’s perfect for casual get togethers which calls for that messy, but cute look. Don’t forget a long cat-eye eyeliner to complete the flirty vibe!
What You’ll need: a hair tie, a cute scrunchie, 1” hair curler
Styling Tips: Repeat the tips mentioned in the above hairstyle.
I recommend only using the hair topper hair to create your half bun. This way, the color will blend better down your hair.
3. NYE
Bring the champagne and ring in the new year!! 2019 is finally over, 2020 is here along with the same ol’ me.
What You’ll need: hair tie, hair powder, 1” hair curler
Styling Tips: Make sure to use both your natural hair and the topper hair in the braid to blend together! I love starting a deep part with the braid for a more dramatic look.
To start, section off a part of the hair that you want to braid and clip back the rest so that it is out of the way. Grab a new section of the front of the hair as you braid down the hair.
4. Romantic Dinner Date
Sultry, is what I’m going for. The deep and sleek side part is a subtle and sexy statement that is simple enough to balance out a statement outfit.
What You’ll need: 1-1.5” hair curler, smoothing crème, hair perfume
Styling Tips:
While I usually prefer curling my hair in the opposite direction with each curl for a casual hairstyle, curling your hair in the same direction achieves a clean and romantic look that’s sure to wow your partner.
A smoothing crème and botanical perfume for your hair is just the cherry on top to prevent any flyaways and seal your ends in!
The holidays are always hectic, but so much fun.
Don’t forget to add CONFIDENCE with all of your looks, it’s the most important step!
Hope you have a wonderful and Happy Holidays!! xoxoxo
